Directory sync (SCIM) keeps StudyBits in step with your identity provider automatically. When someone joins, moves teams, or leaves, StudyBits updates their access without anyone touching it.
With directory sync on:
- New hires appear in StudyBits, in the right role, as soon as they're added to your directory.
- Group changes update a person's role automatically (see Roles & permissions).
- Departures are de-provisioned immediately — access ends when your IdP says it ends.
Turn it on
Open directory sync
In Studio → Settings → Single sign-on, choose Set up directory sync. StudyBits opens the guided setup portal.
Select your directory
Choose your provider (Okta, Entra ID, Google, …). The portal shows the exact endpoint URL and bearer token to paste into your IdP's SCIM configuration.
Choose who syncs
In your IdP, assign the groups or users that should flow into StudyBits. Tip: sync only the people who should have access, not your entire directory.
Confirm the first sync
Back in StudyBits, watch the first sync land. You'll see people and groups appear under Settings → Members.
Directory sync is the source of truth for who has access. If you also add people manually, the next sync may remove anyone your directory doesn't include in a synced group. Decide on one approach per workspace.
Map groups to roles
The real power of directory sync is automatic role assignment. Map each IdP group to a StudyBits role once, and every current and future member of that group gets the right access. See Roles & permissions → Map IdP groups.
